Description:
ESFSJU Increasing moisture and instability from a nearby trough will maintain the potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms through the end of the workweek. Since rains have been abundant in the last couple of days in Puerto Rico, soils are saturated and rivers are running high. Therefore, there is an elevated to significant threat of flooding for most of the area. Showers will again develop today, but the activity is expected to be even more widespread on Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, winds are light, so any rain that develops will be long-lasting. The areas of highest risk are the interior, north, west and portions of eastern Puerto Rico, where rainfall accumulations are expected to be from 2 to 4 inches each day, with isolated higher amounts. Coastal sectors, Vieques, Culebra, and the Virgin Islands are expected to see occasional showers and thunderstorms as well. The main threats are urban and river flooding, and isolated flash flooding too. Mudslides in areas of steep terrain are expected too. Conditions will gradually improve by the weekend, but showers and thunderstorms will still develop each afternoon mostly for the interior and west of Puerto Rico. Please stay tuned to our flood advisories and warnings, especially if you live in flood prone areas, or drive through flood prone roads. This product will be updated if necessary.
