Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall will continue through
early this afternoon.
* WHERE...Northern portions of Childress County, most of Hall
County, and southeastern portions of Briscoe County in the
Panhandle of Texas.
* WHEN...Until 200 PM CDT Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads
remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated
with water and may not be passable.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 721 AM CDT, emergency management reported widespread
flooding and numerous road closures in the warned area due to
earlier thunderstorms. US-287 from Memphis to Estelline and
SH-256 from Memphis to Lakeview have both been closed due to
heavy flooding, and other roadways in the area may also be
impassable. Although the heaviest rainfall has ended,
flooding is already occurring and will continue through early
this afternoon. Up to 5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in
the warned area, but rainfall is expected to taper off over
the next several hours.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Memphis, Turkey, Caprock Canyon State Park, Quitaque, Valley
Schools, Estelline, Lakeview and Plaska Community.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
