Description:
At 525 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
severe thunderstorms producing torrential rain in Amherst and
Littlefield. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional
rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area.
Flash flooding is already occurring. Amherst measured over 2.2
inches of rain with large hail.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Littlefield, Amherst, Fieldton and Spade.
The storms are moving southeast and will cause flooding problems
along highway 84. Dangerous rainfall rates over 5 inches have been
measured with this storm.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
